Who Am I?

I’m David Ong SH — designer by trade, storyteller by obsession.

​

Most days, I build websites and creative projects for clients. But when the website-design business goes quiet (you know lah… sometimes market like that), I do what any sensible person would do…

 

I write novels.

 

Some people binge Netflix.

 

I binge crime, police, espionage, and investigation stories — then I go one step further and create my own.

What I’m Into (A Lot)

If you’re wondering what kind of stories I love, here’s the honest answer: the kind that makes you keep flipping pages and saying, “eh serious ah?”

I’m a big fan of:

  • Jack Reacher

  • Jack Ryan

  • Sherlock (TV series)

  • Crime investigation dramas

  • Espionage thrillers

  • Police procedural stories where every detail matters

 

And yes — I read a lot. Like, a bit too much.

Writers & Series That Shaped My Taste

On the Chinese side, I grew up with:

  • 金庸

  • 倪匡

  • 古龍

  • 蔡瀾

  • 溫瑞安

  • 馮嘉

On the English side, I’ve spent years absorbed in:

  • Lee Child’s Reacher series

  • Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series

  • SEAL Team Six–style military/operations novels

​

All these influences built my “story DNA”:
tight pacing, sharp characters, layered mystery, and that feeling that something bigger is always happening behind the curtain.

Why I Started Writing My Own

Here’s the thing:

​

I’ve always wanted to write stories closer to Singapore — our streets, our systems, our culture, our “don’t play play” realities.

 

But when I looked around, I realised something:
there are very few Singapore-based novels that combine crime, investigation, suspense, and modern action in the way I enjoy reading.

 

So I thought… okay lah.

 

If there isn’t enough of this kind of story, then maybe it’s a good time to start writing it myself.

This website is where I publish my works — including:

  • MCS Files (investigation, crime, darker truths)

  • 《生死十記》 (mystery + action + psychological tension with a Singapore pulse)

  • Simi Lan Sai Long Wu (Singlish satire: “tok gong” vibes, 2025 edition)

Some stories are serious. Some are sarcastic.

 

But all are written with one goal: make you feel like you’re inside the case, inside the city, inside the truth.
